People - Chris Lakin
Chris is an experienced chemical engineer, with many years hands-on experience of managing and improving production and engineering operations for ICI, DuPont and the Sabanci Group around the world. He has successfully commissioned major plants in countries such as China, and was a member of the DuPont Global Manufacturing Excellence Team.
For the last 15 years Chris has been involved in business improvement focusing on safety, productivity, quality and cost improvement via behavioural change using a variety of tools such as 6 Sigma, Lean and TPM. He has worked with clients across a wide range of industries (steel, chemicals, automotive, pharmaceuticals, construction, food and healthcare), throughout the UK, Europe, Asia, Africa and the Former Soviet Union, where he has been involved in over 75 diagnostic visits and a number of major transformational projects. One of these projects delivered an additional $12M of income over 2 years. Chris has led cultural change resulting in a 90% reduction in serious injuries at a cement business in Turkey, and a 60% reduction in recordable injuries at Corus, UK.
Chris is a Lean practitioner and 6 Sigma Master Black Belt and regularly shares his experiences as a speaker on lean sigma and on the leadership of transformational change projects. His work at DuPont resulted in national awards: Cranfield School of Management Best Process Plant and Chemical Industry Association Most Improved Chemical Plant.
